St. Rosalia Ministries
Liturgical Ministries
St. Rosalia is a Eucharistic centered
family. The very heart of our community life flows from the
real presence of Christ among us in the Blessed Sacrament.
Our people have heard the call of Jesus and have given
themselves in service of the ministries of the Sacred
Liturgy.
Ushers
The Ministry of the usher is one that
goes beyond simply taking up the collection at the
Offertory. The ushers at St. Rosalia welcome and greet their
fellow parishioners as they arrive for Liturgical Services.
They also assist those who need help being seated and assist
those who need medical attention during the Mass. As our
people leave the Church after a liturgical service, they
distribute the bulletin and other materials when necessary.
In addition, they select the people who bring up the bread
and wine at the Offertory.
Martha’s Sacristans
Martha’s Sacristans Ministry is
comprised of people who volunteer to clean and prepare the
Church building for different Liturgical Services. The
people serving within this ministry give the Lord a great
deal of their love and personal time so that the House of
God may be more beautiful, presentable and more welcoming to
the worshipping community. This ministry meets on Wednesday
after the 10:00 a.m. Mass and/or Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Extraordinary Ministers of the
Eucharist
Eucharistic Ministries
Distributing the Precious Body and
Blood of Christ is a very important part of the spiritual
ministry to the parish. This is entrusted to the Eucharistic
Ministers. The ministers help distribute Communion at the
Masses each weekend. There are ministers who take the
Precious Body and/or Blood to three nursing homes and to the
homebound every week. Several Eucharistic Ministers conduct
Communion Services once a month at the nursing homes. This
ministry is constantly growing to service the people of the
parish.
Lector Ministry
The Lector Ministry at our Church has
dedicated members, all of whom are a very important part of
liturgical life at the parish. The lectors spend a great
deal of time preparing for each liturgy so that the Word of
God is proclaimed to the congregation. Each lector becomes
an integral part of the Liturgy through readings of the Holy
Scripture. The lectors proclaim the Holy Scriptures at Mass
and lead the Lenten Friday evening Stations of the Cross.
Altar Server
The Altar Server Ministry assists the
priest in a variety of ways. Their assistance is needed
especially during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on Sundays,
Holy Days, and at funeral and wedding Masses. This ministry
offers a wonderful opportunity for the young members of our
parish to actively participate in parish family life and
liturgy. New servers are trained during Lent and welcomed to
the Altar during Easter season.
Cantor and Choir
The St. Rosalia cantors and choir draw
from a repertoire of music that stretches over a broad array
of time periods and styles. Included in this repertoire are
chants, traditional anthems, folk, ethnic pieces and
contemporary music. The cantors and choir enjoy supporting
the singing assembly that gathers for worship and taking on
new musical challenges including complex harmony. Through
these efforts, the life of our parish community are greatly
enhanced.
Rosary Ministry
Mary’s Rosalian Rosary Ministry was
formed as a means to reach out to our parish family. The
goal of the ministry is to reflect upon the Blessed Mother
and to remind others to pray the Rosary. When making
rosaries, it gives the opportunity not only to distribute
rosaries to the parish, nursing homes, homebound, and
hospitals. It moreover opens a door for them to honor and
pray to the Blessed Mother. New members are welcome and
taught how easy it is to make a rosary on the third Monday
of each month at 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the old school building.
Lazarus Bereavement
St. Rosalia Church believes that you
need not walk alone through grief. To assist in the grieving
process, St. Rosalia offers the St. Rosalia Lazarus
Bereavement Support Group. It is dedicated to providing
informal counseling, encouragement and guidance through the
event of losing a loved one. This support group meets the
first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the old school
building.
Vocation Council
The Vocation Council of St. Rosalia was
developed to further an awareness of vocations. In May of
1999, members of the newly established committee were
installed and presented to the parish at Holy Mass. As a
result of this committee, the “Traveling Crucifix” became
available to the families within the parish. The ideology is
for families to take the “Traveling Crucifix” into their
homes and pray for vocations during a one week period. A
booklet of prayers accompanies the Crucifix.
An individual or family can reserve the
Crucifix for a week throughout the year by calling the
Parish Center-Rectory at 412-421-5766. The Council also
informs a particular parish priest and religious house of
the Diocese that they will be praying for them during a
specific week. We also publish the designated priest and
religious house in the bulletin so the people of the parish
can also keep them in their prayers. The Vocation Council
meets periodically throughout the year.
Food Bank
St. Rosalia Food Bank first opened its
doors in 1989 to assist those who are less fortunate within
the community. The food bank is funded through the generous
spirit of the parishioners. The Respect Life Committee
collects monetary donations for the food bank after all the
Masses on the first Sunday of each month. If you are
interested in helping them with this important ministry to
the less fortunate, contact the Parish Center-Rectory at
412-421-5766
Respect Life
The St. Rosalia Respect Life Committee
attempts to share a pro-life philosophy with the entire
parish family. This committee was instrumental in producing
the permanent pro-life memorial that is located near the
church. The program sponsors ongoing projects such as the
monthly food bank collection and the weekly visits to
several elderly parishioners. In addition, the Respect Life
Committee takes up a collection of goods and money for the
support of several pro-life and social agencies.
